A Level English
You should study English Language if you are interested in Linguistics and enjoy writing creatively for a range of audiences and purposes.
Students should not take English Language if they are considering studying English Literature as a degree course at University. Students cannot combine studying A level English Language and A level English Literature courses.
What can this course lead to?
Access to higher education, English Language A level is considered a good qualification for a range of courses at University and is particularly suited for courses requiring excellent communication skills.
Unit content
UNIT 1[AS] Introduction & Language in a range of contexts
UNIT 2 [AS] Original writing and exploring spoken language
UNIT 3 [A2] Language investigation and writing for specific purpose.
UNIT 4 [A2] Exploring how language changes over time & analysis of spoken language.
Method of Assessment
UNIT 1: 30%. 2.5hr exam
UNIT 2: 20% Coursework
Unit 3: 20% Coursework
Unit 4: 30% 2.5hr exam.

B Grade in GCSE English Language
