We live in the school’s catchment area at Aylesbeare having moved from Warwickshire in 2006 to help with grandchildren. A further, recently discovered, link is that a great, great uncle was Clerk of Works on the original school building.  I have served as Vice Chair and Chair of Governors through the Academy Conversion process. My background has been in education as an adviser and consultant and previously as a comprehensive school deputy head.  My post-graduate qualifications are in Education Industry Liaison and my governor links are therefore to the Post 16 and Work Related Learning areas.

I am a self-employed communications professional – I worked as a video producer for a number of years before changing course to concentrate on a career in PR and Social Media consultancy. I love working with words and feel privileged to enjoy a creative and flexible lifestyle. I have two children at The Kings School who are two years apart in age but only one school year, which can prove interesting!   In the Right Order (Owner)

I live within 3 miles of Ottery St Mary and my son as his first option, chose to attend King’s school. As a family we are immensely proud of what the school has achieved and the very high expectations it has for all its pupils. As a parent governor I try to support fellow colleagues and the school’s senior team, by drawing on my lengthy experience as a teacher, senior manager in colleges and 15 years service as an Ofsted HMI. More importantly however, I always try to consider each issue from a learner’s perspective and to the best of my ability, promote the parent or guardian perspective. No school is perfect, but collectively we can ensure that Kings school remains a true comprehensive and continues to provide the very highest quality and standards of education.

I am a parent governor and Vice Chair of the Governing Body.

I started my career in state education and then joined the Army specialising in the leadership of soldiers’ and officers’ professional education and training. More recently, I have been involved in business consultancy delivering leadership, management and coaching.

My 3 boys attended King’s through to sixth form. Each benefitted in their own way from what the school has to offer – academically, in sport and in their personal development.

I have a passion for comprehensive education and believe that governors hold a key role to support and challenge King’s to be as good as it possibly can be for all young people in our community.

I am a member and volunteer with Sidmouth & Ottery Hockey Club and a Trustee of a charity providing apprenticeships and training for serving soldiers.

I have been a Governor at the King’s School for 5 years, and have been Chair for 2 years.  Before retirement I was a Maths teacher and staff governor in South Devon.

My governor link is with the Modern Foreign Languages department, which is very interesting, as teaching languages is so different from my own teaching experience.

As Chair of Governors I sit on both the Resources and Curriculum and Quality committees, and these give me a good insight into both the financial management and the teaching and learning within the school.

My step-daughter attended the school happily for seven years, and through her and other ex-students I have been impressed by the way lasting and supportive friendships have been formed – a very good reflection on the ethos of the school.

A long time ago I was a pupil at the school and very recently my 2 daughters also had a very positive and happy education at King’s.  One of my niece’s is currently a student here.

I run the business side of Escot Estate along with my husband; this is a multi facetted rural business which includes an outdoor education centre allowing students to connect with the natural world.

I serve on the resources committee and am link governor for Geography.

I believe the best type of education is a broad, inclusive and exciting one which helps students to become happy confident and successful adults in what ever they choose to do.

Experience of school governance was gained by spending eight years on the governing body at Ottery Primary school. I joined The King’s School governing body in 2009 and currently chair the resources committee as well as being the link governor for ICT. I am also treasurer of the Foundation and Jubilee Trust.
