Congratulations - Tom Gardner

Earlier this year, Tom Gardner (13CKH) was nominated by Miss Wright for the England Hockey Rising Star Award. This is an award for those who have demonstrated commitment to their own development, is seen as an outstanding role model by their peers, has positioned themselves as an emerging leader and someone who has shown commitment to make a significant difference for the future of hockey. Tom’s leadership skills and experiences are quite simply outstanding and over the past 2 years Tom has either umpired or coached for 100 hours. Tom was shortlisted to go to the England Hockey Awards ceremony on Saturday 20th May in Leicester as one of three people in the whole of England nominated for the Rising Star Award. There were over 500 people in attendance, including the GB women's Gold Medallists. Although on the evening Tom didn't win the overall award, it was a fantastic experience and at the event they mentioned they had the most nominations in the entire history of the awards this year, so for Tom to have been shortlisted was an incredible achievement. Congratulations Tom, The King’s School and Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club will miss you and all that you have to offer. There will be a huge void here at school -  there are a number of players who owe a lot to you for their development and opportunities they have been provided through your input. Thank you for everything.

Miss Wright
