Higher Education
The King’s School has a strong reputation for supporting students in their applications to higher education.
The King’s School Sixth Form has a well-established programme for helping students successfully apply to a wide range of higher education institutions. All Year 12 students attend the UCAS HE convention at Westpoint, Exeter in March. Students are then advised in their Year 12 PSHE lessons about a range of options and usually are spoken to by advisers from Plymouth and Exeter Universities.
Students are encouraged to register for UCAS in June of Year 12, to visit a number of open days in the summer term and UCAS information given out to students with top tips for applications. Tutors also support students in the writing of their personal statements.
Applications are then completed in Year 13 by the end of September for early courses (medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and Oxbridge) so these can be sent to UCAS by 15 October. All other applications are due in mid-November so they can be sent before the end of the autumn term. Students complete an internal reference sheet to give to their tutor before final submission of their application. We also encourage students to submit references to their tutors from employers, voluntary groups or work experience in order to give the best reference possible.
Students and parents are advised to explore the UCAS website and watch some of the video tutorials which contain a wealth of further information.
